Northern Michigan basketball players need a unified travel club and a more robust youth development program.
Historically, Northern Michigan has developed some terrific basketball clubs, where Northern players have had the opportunity to develop their skills beyond the school programs offered. However, HB Elite founder Trevor Huffman, Petoskey native, all-time leading scorer at Kent State (and an Elite Eight in 2002), a former MVP-winning, 3x national title-winning, 13-year pro point guard, and overseas head coach, recognized the need for a unified Northern Michigan travel club, as well as a skill development program to help players succeed on and off the court.
HB ELITE, Northern Pride, and TC Riptide have decided to merge their boys’ and girls ’ programs to build a yearly basketball skill and player development program in Northern Michigan.
By combining resources, gyms, players, coaches, and talent, we can challenge kids to best develop wherever they are on their basketball journey. No school separation. Eliminating fragmented school representation at tournaments. We are ONE hoops community and will be ONE club representing Northern Michigan!
Whether you make the tier-one HB ELITE travel teams or create a tier-two local school-based team with our skill training and coaching guidance, we ask that ALL players, athletes, and families work together to give their kids the best basketball experience possible.

HB ELITE SPRING 2024 TRAVEL SEASON
TIER 1: THE HB ELITE TRAVEL TEAMS
The HB ELITE travel teams are for all the top youth players in Northern Michigan. HB Staff chooses players on their skill level, potential, desire, passion for the game, and family commitment to playing in multiple downstate tournaments. The goal is for these youth players to compete, play, and train with our pro trainers and the top players on the HB platform.
The Spring 2024 season baseline package starts at $400 and covers a minimum of four tournaments (additional tournaments are pay-as-you-go), coaching, one weekly team practice, one weekly skill training session, access to HB ELITE open gyms, our HB at-home training app, free in-season HB skill camps, and a 75% discount on off-season HB camps.
TIER 2: THE HB ELITE SCHOOL-BASED TEAMS
HB ELITE school-based teams (the TC RipTide model) can mix and match local players with a school-based parent coach, and HB can help guide you and give your athletes extra training and development through our platform.
HB’s baseline Spring 2024 season training package starts at $225 and covers one weekly skill training, access to HB ELITE open gym access, the HB training app, free in-season HB camps, and a 75% discount on off-season HB camps. Teams will be responsible for their tournament schedule fees and extra practice times. Patrick Kolody (RipTide), Wills Lee (HB ELITE), and Paul Koepke (Northern Pride) can help you find practice time and jerseys if needed and choose what’s best for your team!
